Matt was born and raised in PA, and graduated from Chambersburg Area Senior High School in 1994. He went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Administration of Justice from Penn State University in 2000 before embarking on a career in private security and inventory management with several large corporations that would move him to NY and NJ.
In 2005, he decided to follow in his father's footsteps and pursue a career in funeral service. Matt graduated from Hudson Valley Community College, Troy, NY with an Associate in Applied Science in Mortuary Science in 2007 and began his career in funeral service right away, becoming licensed in NY and PA before coming back home to PA.
Matt became a member of the Morrison Funeral Home staff in June 2012.
He lives in Oil City with his wife Rebekah, daughter Madeleine, son Teddy, step-daughters Brooke and Taylor, and step-son Bryce. He enjoys working around his house, fishing (for local trout in Oil Creek, tributary steelhead, and trolling for walleye), floating on and camping along any river, and hunting.
He is a graduate of Leadership Venango and serves as the chairman of the Venango Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, is a member of Petrolia Lodge #363 F&AM where he serves on the building committee, serves as a Local Board Member in Venango County for the U.S. Selective Service System, and serves on the board of the Northwest Pennsylvania Funeral Director's Association.
In June of 2017, Matt and Rebekah, bought the Morrison Funeral Home business from Michael Morrison, continuing to keep our services locally family-owned and operated, since 1924.
Rebekah was born in Birmingham, AL, and graduated from Fredericksburg Christian High School in Fredericksburg, VA in 1996.
After high school, she attended Germanna Community College and went on to attend Ashford University before starting a career in banking. After a decade in the banking industry, she decided to go back to school and graduated January of 2013 from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science with an Associate in Specialized Technology Degree in Funeral Service Arts and Sciences. She was the only recipient in her class to receive the “Mu Sigma Alpha Award,” signifying knowledge, wisdom, diligence, and perseverance.
Rebekah joined the staff of Morrison Funeral Home in June of 2017, when she and her husband purchased the funeral home from Michael D. Morrison.
She lives in Oil City with her husband, Matt, and their five children, Brooke, Bryce, Taylor, Maddie, and Teddy. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association, the Western Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association, and the National Funeral Directors Association.
Rebekah is a member of the Franklin-Oil City Zonta Club, actively serving as the Secretary for the last six years, the Oil City Rotary Club, where she served as the President during the 2020-2022 term, a Board Member and Vice Chair of the Oil City Main Street Steering Commitee, a Board Member of the Older Adult Services Advisory Council, a member of the Northwest Hospital Foundation Corporation Board, and has been the race director for Oil City’s Jingle Bell 5k Race for the last 6 years.
In her spare time, she enjoys pilates and yoga, swimming at the YMCA, and is an avid runner. She has ran through Bryce Canyon, Antelope Canyon, and all throughout Pennsylvania, completing countless races. But, her early morning routine, running locally around downtown Oil City or through Oil Creek State Park is her favorite!
Mike is the son of the late Charles A. and Mary Rena Friedhaber Morrison. He is married to the former Linda M. Hartle and has a daughter Jackie (Gabe) Capili and two granddaughters. His son, Timothy Chad Morrison died in a car accident in 2003.
Mike is a 1969 graduate of Oil City High School. He attended Lindsey Wilson College and the University of Kentucky prior to the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science where he graduated with honors in 1975. In September 1987, he purchased the funeral home from his father.
Mike is a member of the Warren, Elk, McKean Funeral Directors Association, a member, past District Governor and past President of the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association and a member and past Policy Board member of the National Funeral Directors Association. He is a member of the American Society of Embalmers and a charter member of the Funeral Ethics Association. He also served on the Pennsylvania State Board of Funeral Directors.
He was a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award by the Oil City Jaycees. Mike and Linda were recipients of the Oil City Area Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizen Award. It was the same award given to his father, Charles A. Morrison, and great uncle, Lake D. Steffee.
Mike is a member of St. Stephen Church where he serves on the Finance Committee. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Mike is a member of the Oil City Kiwanis Club and the Venango Area Chamber of Commerce. He serves on the Planning Commission for the City of Oil City.
Mike is a member and past Master of Petrolia Lodge No 363 F&AM, a member of the Venango Lodge of Perfection, New Castle Consistory, Cyrus Chapter RAM, Talbot Commandry, Acacia Grotto and Zem Zem Shrine. He serves as Secretary/Treasurer for the Masonic Hall Association.
In June of 2017, Mike sold Morrison Funeral Home, Inc. to the son of a classmate of the 1975 Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science class, Matthew T. Deal.
